Once, when the world was shrouded in darkness, eight mighty creatures known as God-Beasts brought the world to the brink of destruction. The Goddess of Mana, wielding the Sword of Mana, felled these terrible creatures and sealed them inside of eight magical stones. Light came upon the world again and the darkness vanished. And thus the world was reborn. With peace restored The Goddess of Mana turned herself into a tree and fell into a deep slumber… Now, many years later, there are those who seek to unleash the God-Beasts from the stones and obtain their godly power. Meanwhile, peace has ended. Greed and strife threaten the world with darkness. Mana itself has begun to fade, its protection whithering away. The Great Mana Tree is dying and with it possibly the world…
